Constantly Evolving

Setting a New Standard

It’s rare for a drinks company to be teaming up with world class researchers and engaging in gold-standard clinical research but OliPOP has been founded on the pillars of innovation, inquiry and authenticity. We believe that it’s no longer good enough to chuck a bunch of magical ingredients in a product, make wild claims, and hope for the best. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Dr. Joseph Petrosino, one of the head-researchers in the Human Microbiome Project and Dr. Tiffany Weir, a leading microbiome and nutrition researcher, to explore our formulations in a clinical setting.

We know that we don’t have all the answers but are committed to doing proper scientific and developmental exploration to illuminate our journey and make the best product possible.

By the numbers

The average American only gets 30% of the daily fiber and prebiotics recommended by the WHO (CDC) and 5-10% of the amount that hunter-gatherer cultures consume (Stanford). Simultaneously the average American eats over 200g of sugar (47 tps) per day (USDA) and 85% of Americans get insufficient plant foods and consume the majority of their calories through meat, wheat, corn, sugar and potatoes (OPPHP).

Additionally, nearly 2/3s of Americans exhibit chronic digestive distress and metabolic challenges (CDC).

A bar chart showing the daily intake of dietary fiber (in grams) by the average American, recommended by the FDA, the WHO, and hunter-gatherers. Described in detail below.

The average American's daily intake of dietary fiber is only ten grams. The FDA recommends 25 grams, while the WHO recommends 30 grams. People in hunter-gatherer communities consume 150 grams of dietary fiber per day.

Industrialized Paleo

In contrast, the hunter-gatherer diet is incredibly rich in nutritional diversity and the average hunter-gatherer consumes hundreds of different types of (mostly plant) foods and nearly 100-200g of fiber and prebiotics per day (Stanford). As you can imagine, their microbiome profile is rich and healthy, with very little inflammation or metabolic disease.

We’ve been hybridizing and processing our food supply at an unprecedented scale since the consumer revolution of the 1950s. We’ve swapped out micro-nutrients and crop diversity for massive yields and perfect looking produce. Additionally, modern food manufacturers, amongst other things, often strip fiber and prebiotics from their products to increase shelf-life and control taste.

OLIPOP is designed to flip the status quo by converting the platform of addicting but unhealthy processed foods into a vehicle to support the digestive microbiome and re-introduce critical nutrients into the modern diet.
