September is Hunger Action Month, an annual campaign in the United States to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity, encourage collective action, and advocate for solutions to end hunger. The nonprofit Feeding America organizes this yearly campaign. Their nationwide network of over 200 food banks hopes to inspire individuals, organizations, and communities to step forward this September (and every month!) in the fight against hunger. And we’re certainly inspired here at OLIPOP! That’s why we’re taking steps to be a part of the change.

OLIPOP's Commitment to Nutrition Access

OLIPOP is dedicated to making a positive impact on community health and well-being. Here are a few ways we’re doing that: 

• Improving Access: At OLIPOP, one of our primary goals is to make nutritious food and beverages accessible in underserved communities. We recognize the importance of widely available healthy food and beverage options, which is why we expanded our presence in 2023 to 25,885 retailers nationwide and likely more than 40K retailers by the end of 2024, ensuring that healthier drink options are available where they are needed most. 
• Food Giveaway Events: Our food giveaway events are a cornerstone of our community health initiatives. They provide nutritious beverages and essential food items to families in need. These events help address food insecurity by making healthy options accessible to those who might otherwise go without. By partnering with local organizations and leveraging our network, we ensure these events have a meaningful impact.
• Nutrition Education: We aim to empower individuals with knowledge about healthy eating and the benefits of nutritious beverages, fostering long-term health and wellness. Since 2019, OLIPOP has focused on building awareness and scientific thought leadership among registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) and healthcare practitioners (HCPs). We also provide continuing education units (CEUs) for RDNs through accredited webinars.
• Insurance Coverage: OLIPOP has partnered with the major Medicare Advantage supplemental benefit platforms to increase access to our products via health insurance funds. These include programs such as Solutran’s Healthy Savings and Healthy Benefits+, Incomm’s OTC Network, and Nation Benefits. If eligible, certain health insurance plans provide a set monthly amount for healthy grocery cash-back benefits, which can be used to purchase OLIPOP at the point of sale or be reimbursed by the plan after purchase.
• SNAP Program Partnership: OLIPOP proudly participates in the SNAP benefits program, making our high-fiber, lower-sugar* beverages more affordable and accessible for low-income families. This initiative has led to the highest SNAP household penetration among functional sodas, promoting healthier dietary habits and addressing nutrient deficiencies in these communities.

What Is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal assistance program in the United States that provides low-income individuals and families with financial assistance to purchase food. It is the country's most extensive nutrition assistance program, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers it through state agencies.

OLIPOP is a proud participant of the SNAP benefits program. By integrating OLIPOP products into the program, we can offer healthier beverage choices that support better nutrition and overall health. Our digestive health beverages, which are low in sugar* and high in dietary fiber, align perfectly with SNAP's goals to improve food security and nutrition among vulnerable populations.

How Do I Use SNAP to Buy OLIPOP?

To purchase OLIPOP using SNAP, you must first apply for SNAP benefits in your state. Each state has a different application form and process. You can contact your state agency by visiting your local SNAP office, heading to your state agency’s website, or calling your state’s toll-free SNAP Information hotline. If your state agency determines that your household meets SNAP eligibility requirements, you’ll receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which works like a debit card. With this card, you can buy OLIPOP and other groceries at authorized food stores and retailers.
